Mabel Law Atkinson was born Mabel Deem Law on Tuesday, November 17, 1887, at 3:30 p.m., in Avon, Cache Co., Utah. She was the sixth in a family of ten children. Her twin sister, Myrtle, was born 3 1/2 hours earlier. Her parents were Francis Joseph Law and Anine Mantine Deem.
Mabel and Myrtle attended a one-room school house in Avon, where the two always led their class. They attended high school at Brigham Young College in Logan, Utah, graduating in 1916 from the Preparatory Normal Course. Mabel was valedictorian; Myrtle was salutatorian.
Following her marriage to Earl Joseph Atkinson on August 1, 1918, they lived in Dayton, Idaho (six miles west of Preston, Idaho). Joseph and Mabel were parents of five children. Mabel died of cancer in the hospital in Preston on May 30, 1962, and was buried in the Dayton Cemetery.
